Braves basketball season comes to an end

The Mt. Zion Braves faced off against the Chatham Gleenwood Titans in the Class 3A Decatur Eisenhower sectional final Friday evening. In a low scoring defensive battle, the Braves led by 2-points at the end of the first quarter but trailed 16-20 at halftime.

Sammy Driscoll hit the go-ahead 3-pointer and the end of the third quarter as Mt. Zion led 28-26.

The Braves committed four straight turnovers down the stretch after taking a 30-26 lead early in the fourth quarter. With under three minutes remaining Mt. Zion led Glenwood 32-29 but a steal and dunk by Titans Mason Neumann began a 10-0 run en route to 32-39 loss for the Braves.

Mt. Zion’s Lyncoln Koester scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half. The Braves end their season with a record of 25-10.
