Sixth inning hurts CGB baseball in 13-6 loss to Argenta-Oreana

CERRO GORDO –The Cerro Gordo/Bement baseball team dropped three games last week and two of them were Lincoln Prairie Conference games. The Broncos fell to Argenta-Oreana April 14 and last Thursday fell to Tri-County 15-2. The only non-conference game, which was April 15, saw CGB fall 11-1.
Tri-County never trailed and the big inning was the second when they scored seven runs to lead 10-0. The Broncos scored one run each in the second and third and trailed 12-2 after three.
The Broncos, 2-9 overall, were looking for their first conference win in five tries Monday at Arcola and play host to Sullivan Thursday in another LPC game.
Against the Mt. Pulaski Hilltoppers offense was hard to come by as the Broncos were held to just three hits with the lone run scoring in the fourth, when they trailed 9-0. Carter Clark allowed the three hits and one run with eighth strikeouts and one walk for the 10-2 Hilltoppers.
April 14: Argenta-Oreana at Cerro Gordo/Bement
Trailing 6-1 in the home half of the third the Broncos offense scored three runs to trail only by two. It was still a two-run game after five innings, 7-5 when the Bombers struck for six in the final inning.
In the third with one out Brayden Strack hit a 3-1 pitch for a home run. Kody Somers followed with a single to left; and Mike Freese doubled to second to put runners in scoring position. With two outs Kaydon Waterhouse came through with a two-run single to left. A fly out ended the inning.
The final run for the Broncos occurred in the fourth when with one out Jack Hentz led off with a walk and scored on a double by Mickey Tirpak.
Freese was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two stolen bases, while Waterhouse was 2-for-4 with three runs batted in and Brody Somers was 2-for-4 with a RBI for the Broncos.
