Will Fuson continues to shine in 800; Alumbugh in pole vault for CGB boys track

At the Tuscola Open track and field meet on Monday, April 28, CGB freshman Emilee Strack threw the shot put. Her best throw was 19’ 11” which was a PR for her.

DECATUR – Bement junior Will Fuson, who is on the Cerro Gordo/Bement boys track team, continues to win the 800.

Fuson won the 800 at the Tuscola Open April 28 with a time of 2:01.1 and then won the event April 29 at the Macon County meet at Decatur St. Teresa with a time of 2:00.56. He was first by 6.9 over the second place finisher Ryne Norton of Maroa-Forsyth.

At Tuscola he won by 4.43 seconds over second place finisher Jackson High of Casey-Westfield/Martinsville.

Tyce Alumnbaugh won the pole vault at the Macon County meet with a vault of 11-5 ¾ and it was after winning the Tuscola Open with a vault of 10-11 ¾, which was 1 ¾ better than second place Owen Smith of Sullivan.

Alumbaugh was also second in the 400 with a time of 54.07 at Decatur, while Fuson took second in the 1,600 in 4:34.36, while J. P. Brewer was the runner-up in the 3,200 in 11:29.56.

The 4×400 and 4×800 were second in the Macon County Tournament with times of 3:45.52 and 9:44.32 respectively.

The 4×400 consisted of Alumbaugh, Eli Corpus, Fuson and Azul Mendoza, while the 4×800 runners were Lucas Fuson, Clark Ryder, Mendoza and Will Fuson.

As a team the Broncos were third out of eight teams in the Macon County meet with 80 points. Maroa-Forsyth won with 150 points.

In the Tuscola Open CGB was eighth out of 15 teams with 30 points. Tuscola won with 166 points.

On the girls side Cerro Gordo/Bement placed fourth with 61 points in the Macon County meet won by Maroa-Forsyth with 177 points. At Tuscola the Lady Broncos were 16th in the meet won by Tuscola with 131 points.

Highlighting the girls portion was a first place in the pole vault at the Macon County meet by Addison Frantz at 6-6.

Madisen Callaway was second in the 400 with a time of 1:05.85 at Decatur St. Teresa, while the 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams finished second with times of 4:44.70 and 11: 57.41 respectively. Members of the 4×400 were Addison Roberts, Cassie Block, Bailey Walter, Jillian Durbin, while the 4×800 was comprised of Jilian Durbin, Mariah Campos, Gabby Block and Cassie Block.
