ALAH baseball nips Sullivan on wild pitch in ninth
ALAH BASEBALL SENIORS. On Tuesday, May 13, the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond Knights baseball team held their Senior Day prior to their last home game of the season with Sullivan. Pictured here from left to right are Carson Augustine, son of Brandy White and Andy Brown and Kevin and Payton Augustine; Callahan Binion, son of Shane and Samantha Binion; Kendall Schrock, son of Kenny and Erica Schrock; and Maddix Stirrett, son of Mikie and Megan Stirrett. The administration, coaching staff, and the communities of Arthur, Lovington, Atwood, and Hammond thanked the seniors and their families for all their work and support over the past four years and wished them much success in the future. The Sullivan seniors were also congratulated and wished the best in the future. The game following was very exciting as the Knights tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game to extra innings. After Sullivan took a one run lead in the top of the ninth, ALAH won 5-4 with two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning!

ARTHUR – There was no scoring in the Lincoln Prairie Conference baseball game May 11 until the sixth when Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond took a 1-0 lead against Sullivan The Redskins, coached by former Mattoon Post 88 coach Jason Badman, took the lead with three runs in the seventh. The Knights sent the game into extra inning with two runs in the seventh.
In the seventh with Will Hilligoss on first after leading off the frame with a single, the next two batters struck out. With ALAH down to their final out Lucas Butcher reached on a single and Jansen Burnett walked to load the bases. Marcus Otto came through with a single as one run scored and then Butcher scored on an error to tie the contest.
Neither team scored in the eighth. In the ninth the first two Redskins walked. The next batter was intentionally walked to load the bases. After Kendall Schrock struck out the next two batters, Caden Saul scored on a wild pitch.
In the Knights ninth the first two batters (Otto and Kendall Schrock) also walked. Otto stole third and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Maxton Boddy Logan Schrock singled to center on a 2-2 count as Kendall Schrock moved to third and then scored on wild pitch to end the thrilling game.
