SULLIVAN – Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond’s softball team finished its regular season with a 12-15 record, including 8-2 in the Lincoln Prairie Conference, good for a tie for second place with Sullivan.
The last week saw the Knight go 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference. May 13 will be a day Mackenzie Condill will remember as she was perfect in five at-bats with two home runs, a stolen base and nine runs batted in as ALAH downed Okaw Valley 19-7. Alayna Plank also had a heck of a game going 4-for-5 with a run batted in.
The Knights led Central A&M 3-0 after two innings, but the Lady Raiders exploded for seven runs in the third and went on to beat ALAH 15-5 in five innings.
The Jerry Lane Memorial Tournament (in memory of the Sullivan grad, who coached softball at ALAH and who died on Oct. 16, 2023) saw the Knights held to just three hits in a 15-0 six innings loss to Teutopolis. The Knights did roll over Sullivan, 14-3, scoring at least one run in every inning except one, including eight runs in the fourth for a 14-2 lead. Sophie Monts held the Lady Redskins to four hits in five innings to get the win. Monts helped herself at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while Condill was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs.
