A four-win Cerro Gordo team came to Villa Grove and a pitchers dual broke out. Both teams have struggled hitting so in a sense it was no surprise.
Max Wilson went the distance by holding the Broncos to two hits and striking out twelve. Cerro Gordo’s Brayden Strack was holding the Devils to four hits while striking out six.
VG finally lit the scoreboard up in the 6th inning when Thomas Vandeventer scored on a wild pitch. Wilson led the offense with two hits.
The dysfunctional Devils showed up on Tuesday night when they met Central A&M losing 6-4.
The offense had seven hits and scored four runs, but it was on the defensive side that the game was lost. Five errors led to five unearned runs. Two errors on the same play in the 3rd led to two Raider runs.
Noah Wilcoxon led the team with two hits and two RBIs. Gavin Taylor scored two runs.
The Devils hosted Georgetown Ridge-Farm on Thursday. After single runs in the first two innings, Blue Devils pitcher Zane Hosler kept the Buffaloes at bay by setting down twelve in a row at one point.
Meanwhile the Devils tied the game at two in the 2nd with a Jackson Gilles ground out. A Vandeventer triple broke the game open in the 5th inning. The hit drove in two and Vandeventer scored on a wild pitch.
GRF scored two in the 7th, but VG won 6-4. Hosler got the win, his 4th win of the year. Jackson Gire led the team with three hits.
The Blue Devils (8-14) will now host the Heritage Hawks on Monday in regionals. If VG wins, they will play Mt. Pulaski on Wednesday in Tuscola.
