Seven from ALAH and six from CGB make all-area softball N-G

CHAMPAIGN – The 35th Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette All-Area softball team was released last Thursday and no Record-Herald News player made the 12-member second team for first team, but seven from Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond and six from Cerro Gordo/Bement made the 160-member honorable mention squad.

On the 160 member honors mention team were seven from Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond, coached by Jodi Kauffman. The Knights are a team that went 13-16 overall and 8-2 in the LPC, good for a tie for second place with Sullivan. Earning honorable mention were 2025 grads Mackenzie Condill (outfield/shortstop) and Alyana Plank (infielder/pitcher) as well as seniors to be in Layla Deel (first base/pitcher), Anna Rawlings (utility) and players that will be juniors in London Dugan (catcher/outfield/first base), Sophie Monts (shortstop/pitcher) and sophomore to be Annabelle Vanausdoll (outfielder/shortstop/second baseman).

For the CGB Broncos, who finished 6-17 overall and 2-8 in the LPC, good for ninth place, one recent grad, Sierra Personette was on the team along with senior to be Hunter Malone and juniors to be Jillian Deters and players that will be sophomores in Madisen Callaway, Mya Durbin and Madelyn Sommers. The Broncos are coached by Allen Helms.

Hailey Helm of Champaign Central and her coach Mike Williams were the News-Gazette Player of the year and Coach of the Year respectably.
