Butcher has nine kills as ALAH volleyball wins LPC match

The annual JV Knight Classic volleyball tournament was held on Saturday, September 13 at ALAH High School. Teams entered besides ALAH were Arcola, Cerro Gordo Bement, Heritage, Monticello, and Villa Grove. The Knights’ squad defeated Heritage and CGB to earn the right to play Monticello for first place. ALAH came up short but did earn the second place trophy. Pictured here with that trophy are in front from left to right: Laila Sanchez, Layla Beck, Norma Mendoza, Abby Franklin, and Alyssa Aherndt. ARTHUR – Savannah Butcher, a 5-9 senior for the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond volleyball team had nine kills as the Knights opened up play in the Lincoln Prairie Conference with a 25-13, 25-21 win over Argenta-Oreana last Thursday.

Annabelle Vanausdoll had half of the six aces, while Karaline Vanausdoll had a team-high seven digs and Morgan Castleel had nine assists.

The Knights are 8-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

The junior varsity team had its own Knights Classic and went 2-1. ALAH swept Heritage 25-18, 25-15 and Cerro Gordo/Bement 25-16, 25-8 in two matches against fellow Lincoln Prairie Conference teams.

The day ended with a 25-8, 25-14 loss to Monticello as ALAH finished second.The junior varsity is 6-1.
