Complete with highlight plays, a barricaded paint, and multiple milestones, Tuscola righted every wrong Tuesday night at home.
A quick 14–0 run engulfed the fans in a cheering fury that lasted from tip to final buzzer. Starting off the hottest, sophomore Tanner Block let it fly from the back of the runway, and put his defender in skates. A newer addition to the starting line up, Block has exploded in his role.
Impenetrable, the best word to describe the Warrior defense. Arthur-Okaw only scored five points in the first quarter, only had one inside touch, and so many turnovers, transition defense was more common than offense.
Speaking of offense, Tuscola’s was precise, unrelenting, and simply unstoppable. Twenty-one first quarter points with only three missed shots. A game plan that got every player open in every spot on the court, paired with crushing dominance on the boards.
An excellent first quarter played, only to be out done by the second.
Thirty-three total points scored, two of them making Tuscola boys basketball history. Senior star Logan Kurtz would score 10 consecutive points, ranging from dunks to deep threes.
Late in the second quarter Kurtz would swiftly lunge over his man, deflecting and gaining possession of the ball. Gliding down the court only one man stood between Kurtz and the basket. Going from full sprint to graceful floater in one fluid motion Kurtz scored his 21 point of the game and his 1000 all time.
Kurtz became just the 20th player in school history to reach the 1,000 point milestone.
After the celebratory intermission for Kurtz’s outstanding accomplishment, the scoring barrage continued for Tuscola. Despite the overwhelming size advantage in the post, most points came from soaring guards down the lane. Block and Connor Musgrave combined for 16 this quarter and Tuscola entered the second half on track to reach the century mark 54–15.
Responsible for 19 of the 21 third quarter points, the Tuscola bigs began to feast. Chenoweth scored six, Russo scored four, and off the bench sophomore Cale Wallace scored a quarter high nine.
Able to completely dominate with strength, size, and willpower, the three big men put the already decided game completely to rest. Tuscola entered the final quarter up 75–25.
In the fourth the two teams would muster up a combined eight points in eight minutes both scoring four. A running clock quarter with both teams subbing in the bench, the most noteworthy aspect was Arthur–Okaw missing two consecutive free throws, giving every fan in the Tuscola student section a free mini blizzard coupon to Dairy Queen.
With the final seconds trickling down, Tuscola would win by a resounding 50 points, 79–29. This not only being their 18th win on the season but Head Coach Justin Bozarth’s 200th career win.
