ALAH girls basketball drop two after win over Villa Grove

ARTHUR – The week started out strong for the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond girls’ basketball team as they downed Villa Grove 63-14 in a Lincoln Prairie Conference game. However, the Knights suffered a 57-49 non-conference game at Marshall and followed that with a tough 56-48 setback to Tri-County in a LPC game.

The Knights, 13-15 overall and 5-4 in the conference, played host to Okaw Valley in the final regular season game and conference contest on Monday.

The Knights trailed 16-11 after the first eight minutes, but then outscored the Lady Titans 14-7 in the second period to lead 25-23 at the break.

Tri-County took a slim 39-38 advantage heading into the final four minutes before out-scoring ALAH 17-10 to win by eight.

Arthur lost despite three players in double digits. Annabelle Vanausdoll led the way with 16 points, while Sophie Monts had 14 and Morgan Casteel 12.

ALAH was 18-of-57 (.316) from the field, while Tri-County shot .453 sinking 24-of-53.

The Lady Titans improved to 16-5 overall and 7-1 in the LPC, good for third place.

Cara Phillips had a team-high 16, while sophomore Maria Ehlers had 14 for Tri-County.

February 3:
Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond at Marshall

Marshall led just 12-8 after one quarter, but they outscored the Knights 21-11 to lead 33-19 at the half.

The Lady Lions, 13-9, were outscored 30-24 in the second half, but it was not enough for the Knights to win.

ALAH was led by Monts with 24 and Casteel netted 15 in the contest.

February 2
Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond at Villa Grove

ALAH outscored Villa Grove 18-0 in the opening quarter and the game was never in doubt after that. Monts and Casteel had seven and six points respectively in the opening eight minutes.

The Lady Blue Devils made one basket in the first half and trailed the Knights 27-3.

ALAH outscored Villa Grove by at least nine in every quarter and led 50-10 heading into the final quarter.

Monts led the Knights with 11 points,while sophomore Rylie Ward came off the bench to also finish with 11 points.

Villa Grove, 0-16, was led in scoring by Chevelle Grice and Alice Mitsdarfer with four points each.
