CGB baseball has 10 hits in loss

CHAMPAIGN – The Cerro Gordo/Bement baseball team has been struggling offensively, but March 30 the Broncos had a season-high 10 hits. However,the Broncos lost to St. Thomas More 7-3.
It tied for the closest CGB has been to winning a game as the Broncos lost to Decatur St. Teresa 7-3 on March 20.
St. Thomas More, who improved to 4-4, took a 3-1 lead with two runs in the third and pushed the advantage to 4-1 with a run in the fourth.
The Broncos got one run back in the fifth to come within two runs. In the top of the sixth Mickey Tirpak led off with a triple and Miller Giger was hit by a pitch. Lucas Walker drove in a run with a single. With runners on first and second and two outs Lucas Tirpak loaded the bases by drawing a base on balls. However, the threat ended with a strikeout.
The Broncos also left the bases loaded in the fourth and left 10 runners on base overall.
Jack Heintz was 2-for-4 with a double and a run batted in, while Mickey Tirpak was 2-for-4 with a run to lead the Broncos, who dropped to 0-5.
Cerro Gordo’s scheduled game April 1 against Tri-City was cancelled due to rain.
The Broncos opened up Lincoln Prairie Conference action Monday at Okaw Valley and host Heritage Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
