With America’s 250th anniversary approaching, the Arthur Village Board is helping plan a larger-than-usual community celebration, highlighted by an expanded fireworks display.
Trustees approved $8,000 in funding for the Arthur Rotary Club’s annual fireworks event, which will feature new elements this year, including 12-inch shells and a coordinated music display as part of the America 250 celebration.
Trustees also approved two town-wide cleanup days, set for Saturday, June 20, and Saturday, Sept. 19. Additional details will be provided at a later date regarding guidelines and participation.
During the police report, officials noted the addition of a new tracking category for Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
According to the report, FOIA requests have increased significantly across many municipalities, largely driven by news organizations and social media users seeking information for stories and online posts.
The Board approved a TIF (tax increment financing) request for work to be completed on the Arthur pool in the amount of $13,500. The funding will help with assistance to fund safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency improvements. The four projects will include 1.) pool slide and stairs replacement 2.) floor replacement in the bathrooms and concession area 3.) pool doors replacement 4.) indoor lighting upgrade in the bathrooms, concession area, and chemical room. All the work is scheduled to be completed prior to the opening of the pool season to ensure uninterrupted public access.
Trustees approved a TIF facade grant for the property at 123 S. Vine St. for $8,400.
The project will redesign the building’s front window to allow larger items to be moved in and out of the space. The grant is contingent upon a business occupying the building.
