Arcola’s Roberts-McGeehon wins 400 in Paris Relays; Villa Grove’s Martin shines in Salt Fork Invite

PARIS – Thursday in the Paris relays Arcola’s Remi Roberts-McGeehon won the 400 with a time of 52.93, a season best and .30 better than second place Parker Harris of Newton. The 11 team meet had no team scores kept.
On the girls side Ema Simpson was third in the 400 and anchored the third place 4×100 which also included Olivia Gisinger, Scarlett Montano and Jaiden Miller. Their time was 54.54, good for third place. Simpson’s time in the 400 was 1:04.34..

As a team the Lady Blue Devils placed fifth with 49 points in the meet won by Paris with 122.5 points, while Arcola tied with Hoopeston Area for eighth with 27 points.
Highlighting the meet was Villa Grove junior Baylee Martin, who won the long jump at 16-9 ¾, which was 1-5 ½ better than second place Keagan Noel of Paris. Martin was also the lead in the first place sprint medley, which is two 200’s, a 400 and an 800. Their time was 4:48.84 and also included junior Evalice Callison, sophomore Evalina Kirkade and freshman Alice Mitsdarfer.
Ema Simpson was third for Arcola in the 400, which was the best finish for the Lady Riders. Her time was a season-best 1:03.57.
On the boys side at Salt Fork Villa Grove freshman Payton Cravens won the long jump going a personal best 20-11 ¼, which was 9-0 ¾ better than second place Easton Bolin of Westville. Cravens was also on the winning 4×400 team which also included sophomore Nolan Shadwick, sophomore Carter Dowler and freshman Miles Swigart. Their time was 3:33.02, a whopping 10.8 better than second place Oakwood.
As a team the Blue Devils placed fifth out of 10 teams with 54.5 points in the meet won by Danville with 143 points, while Arcola was ninth with 23 points.
For the Purple Riders the 4×100 team of Robets-McGeehon, Ronnie Vega, Brody Phillips and Canton Wesch ran a 46.30, good for second place, which was the top finish for AHS.
For the Lady Riders Simpson had the best finish, placing third in the 400 with a time of 1:03.57.
