ALAH JH Track and Field in 3rd Consecutive Jr. High Invite

Abel Lat an eighth grader on the ALAH jr. high boys’ track and field team goes over a hurdle in the 110 meter hurdle race at the Mt. Zion JH Invitational last Saturday. Abel placed sixth in the race with a time of 18.71. Abel just missed scoring in the 400 meter with a seventh place finish by running a time of 1:00.07 which was a PR for him. He had a busy day on the track as he also ran legs on the 4 X 2 and 4 X 4 relays at the meet.

For the third week in a row, the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond jr. high Knights’ track and field teams were in an invitational, this Saturday was in Mt. Zion for their annual Invitational. There were fourteen teams from IESA Class 2A, 3A, and 4A schools competing at the meet.

These larger teams provided some very good competition to prepare the athletes for their upcoming IESA Sectional and State meets.

ALAH’s seventh grade girls had two individual event placers, Addison Cazel took third in the shot put with a throw of 24’ 3.5” and Lilah Ellis was fourth in the long jump with a distance of 12’ 7.25”.

The eighth grade girls scored in two relays, the 4 X 1 was fourth with Kyndall Crist, Maranda Pratt, Maraiah Pratt, and Natalie Peralta running a 56.98 and Natalie, Maranda, Mariah, and Halle Oye were sixth in the 4 X 4 at 4:39.62.

The seventh grade boys scored third place points in the 400 meters with Micah Burket running a PR of 1:01.50 and Reed Kingery throwing a PR of 87’ 2” in the discus. Waylon Miller took fourth place in the 200 meters and ran the anchor leg of the 4 X 2 relay with Micah Burket, Bowyer McGrath, and Jamison Helmuth to finish fourth in that event at 1:52.39. Nate Blaudow took sixth in the long jump with a PR of 14’ 7.75” to finish the seventh grade scoring.

The eighth grade boys had two sixth place finishes with Abel Lat coming in sixth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 18.71 and the 4 X 2 relay with Ajay White, Abel Lat, Eli Burket, and Noah Albright running a time of 1:49.88.

The ALAH jr. high track and field teams were to compete in the annual Jr. High Okaw Conference meet at Okaw Valley on Monday, May 4 before entering their post season at the IESA Class 2A Sectional on Saturday, May 9 at Central A & M. Event winners and athletes meeting the IESA qualifying standards at that meet will advance to the IESA State Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16 at Eastside Centre in East Peoria.
