Knights Track and Field at Clinton 5 Team Meet

The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond boys’ and girls’ track and field teams competed in a five team meet at Clinton High School on Tuesday, April 28. The girls’ team finished third in the team standings with the boys placing fourth.
ALAH was supposed to have a jr. varsity track and field meet at Salt Fork on Monday, April 27 but bad weather forced that meet to be cancelled and they were able to go to Clinton the next evening with several of the younger athletes able to compete.
Winning events for the girls were freshman Zoey Mendoza taking the high jump at 4’ 8.75” and sophomore Bella Romine capturing first in the long jump with a leap of 16’ 7.75”. The girls ran their regular relays for the most part. The 4 X 4 being the exception as it featured all freshmen and sophomores. The 4 X 2 of Grace Romine, Leighton Poulos, Summer Melton, and Bella Romine won with a time of 1:50.32. The fresh/soph 4 X 4 saw Norma Mendoza, Macee Boddy, Sophia Johnson, and Rylie Ward run a 4:21.49 to take first place.
Beau Green was the only individual event winner for the boys taking the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:22.40. The boys did have two winning relays that also featured fresh/soph athletes. Freshman Jase Kingery, and sophomores Cannon Doggett, Carson Reed, and Faemus Davison won the 4 X 2 in 137.86. The 4 X 4 with Kingery, Reed, Davison, and freshman Brian Hadley ran a time of 3:44.42 to win that event.
The track and field teams will go their separate ways on Friday, May 1 with the girls heading to Monticello for the annual Lady Sages Invitational and the boys will be at Williamsville for a new meet, the Third Annual Don Williams Invite. With the seniors on their annual Senior Trip to Washington D.C., the JV track and field teams will be at Tuscola for a meet on Monday, May 4. After the seniors return, both boys’ and girls’ teams will compete in the annual Lincoln Prairie Conference track and field meet on Friday, May 8 which will be at Cerro Gordo High School.
Meet time for the conference meet is 2:00 p.m.
