Arcola softball tops Urbana, falls in two LPC games to Sullivan and Argenta-Oreana

ARGENTA–Arcola fell to 4-20 overall and 2-6 in the Lincoln Prairie Conference as they fell to Argenta-Oreana Monday in a LPC game, 10-0 in six innings. The Lady Riders did manage five hits, including two by Briseida Condarco, but the Bombers, who improved to 6-2 in the conference, had at least one run in all but one inning, scoring four in the third for a 7-0 advantage.
Saturday in a LPC game on the Arcola Rec field at Kelly Moore Memorial Park Sullivan’s Aeralyn Thrasher put on quite the show. She had a perfect game going into the bottom of the sixth and finished with a no-hitter. She had 14 strikeouts and three walks. She also helped herself at the plate by going 3-for-5 with two home runs and two RBIs in an 8-1 win over Arcola.
Thrasher is 5-1 with a 2.97 earned run average and a save. She has 71 strikeouts in 59 innings. Offensively, the senior leads the team in home runs with five. She is second on the team in batting at .388 behind Harmony Ray.
Last Thursday Arcola snapped a five-game losing streak as they held off Urbana, a Class 3A team, 13-9. The Purple Riders led 13-6 after three and a half innings, scoring nine in the fourth to take the lead for good.
Sullivan at Arcola, Saturday
Both teams went down in order in the first inning. In the second Sullivan scored all the runs they would need, two. One run scored with two outs. With two outs in the third Thrasher hit a full-count pitch over the fence in left/center field for a 3-0 lead. The Lady Redskins added another run for a 4-0 advantage. Two of the three runs in the fifth for Sullivan scored with two outs in an inning which began with a single by Thrasher.
Arcola’s offense was stagnant until the sixth when with one out Stevee Griffth broke up the perfect game bid by drawing a walk on five pitches. Averi Kutz reached on a fielder’s choice as Griffith was out at second. The leadoff batter, Maddie Pilkington walked with two outs and Anahi Cooper reached on an error as Kutz scored.
Thrasher hit her second home run with one out in the sixth. She nearly got a third one in the seventh on a deep drive caught by center fielder Tenley Thomas.
Arcola at Urbana, Thursday
The game looked good for Arcola after two and a half innings as they led Urbana 4-0. However, the Tigers, who fell to 5-15, scored six in the third to take the lead.
It did not take long for Arcola to regain the lead as they sent 13 to the plate. Kutz and Pilkington started it off with singles and with one out Brisedia Condarco singled to load the bases. Kylay Lyons single drove in two runs to tie the game at six. Thomas single scored Condarco and Analli Cooper’s double plated Lyons and Thomas Jolena King reached on an error as Cooper scored. Griffith singled and Kutz drove in King and Griffith with a double. The final run of the inning scored on an error as Pilkington reached and Kutz scored for a seven-run lead.
Urbana scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth and left bases loaded in the fourth and runners on the corners in the seventh.
Thomas led Arcola’s offense by going five-for-five with two RBIs, while Lyons was 2-for-5 with four RBIs. Kutz was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
