By Mike Monahan
ARCOLA – Sunday on a day which saw temperatures in the low 70s the Arcola High Power Eastern Illinois baseball League took on the White Heath Warriors, with both teams looking for their first win of the young season. The High Power led 2-1 after three innings in the first game, but White Heath scored six in the fourth and went on to win the scheduled nine inning game, which was called after seven due to the 10-run rule, 13-3. The Warriors had no trouble in the second game scoring five runs in the first and winning 12-3 in a game called after five innings due to High Power not wanting to continue the game.
Arcola fell to 0-8 and are scheduled to play June 28 at St. Joseph’s Meier Field against the Royal Giants, a team that is 6-0, with the first game set to start at 1 p.m. and the second game at 3:30 p.m.

Arcola trailed 1-0 after the Warriors scored an unearned run in the first inning when they took the lead in the home half of the third and did so after the first two struck out. L. J. It was the second time the High Power has led this season and the three runs in both games are the most they have scored in one game and in one day this season.

“In baseball sometimes you make mistakes in the infield or outfield,” said Arcola coach Juan Ramirez. “I missed a couple of people because it rained this morning and they just thought there were no games today. I am trying to find good players. The other teams have college kids on them and can throw it in the 80s. Maybe the high school kids want to play with us. White Heath had players that just graduated from Monticello.”
Among the players for Arcola is Gavin Houchins, who just completed his sophomore year at Millikin University and is a graduate of Central A&M. Houchins is a second team Division III All-American as a relief pitcher. However, he is not allowed to pitch.
Caleb South is a 2023 graduate of Meridian. Trevor Frohling is a 2016 graduate of Eureka, where he played for the Red Devils. Dario Ayala is a 2018 graduate of Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond, while Brocky Lyerly, is an Argenta-Oreana grad, who played at Blackburn College. Daniel Arwine is a 2023 ALAH grad and his brother Edik is entering his senior year.
