The newly formed Moultrie-Douglas 4-H Sewing Club has stitched together a successful first season, with 14 youth members participating in hands-on learning and creative project work. The club met for six sewing sessions at the Arthur United Methodist Church, where members developed new skills while creating items they will proudly exhibit at upcoming county fairs.
Throughout the sessions, participants worked on a variety of projects, including pillowcases, stuffed pillows, tic-tac-toe boards, and drawstring bags. Each project gave youth the opportunity to build confidence in sewing techniques while expressing their creativity and attention to detail.
The club was inspired and launched by Brenda Pierce, whose vision brought the group together and created a welcoming environment for beginners and experienced youth alike. The program was supported by dedicated helpers Kelly Pierce, Anamary Bicknel, Sharon Jack, and Gail Scriber whose time and guidance played an important role in the club’s success.
Organizers are excited to see the hard work of these young sewers come to life as they showcase their finished projects at both the Coles County 4-H Fair and the Moultrie-Douglas County 4-H Fair later this summer.
With a strong turnout and enthusiastic participation in its inaugural year, the Moultrie-Douglas 4-H Sewing Club is already proving to be a valuable addition to the local 4-H program, helping youth gain practical skills and a sense of accomplishment they can carry forward.
