The Villa Grove Spanish Club recently returned from a nine-day adventure in Costa Rica. Twenty-one people from the school, including students and chaperones, went on the trip. Twenty-six people from other schools across the United States also joined them on the tour.
The group of 47 explored the country, visiting several interesting places. They experienced the atmosphere of the bustling capital city of San José, viewed paintings in the artist town of Sarchí, enjoyed a view of the Arenal volcano in La Fortuna, ventured up into the mountains to the city of Monteverde, and soaked up the sun in the coastal cities of Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Along with sightseeing, the group got to partake in many activities; hiking, walking across hanging bridges, kayaking, swimming (at the beach and at a hot springs resort), horseback riding, and ziplining.
The group was able to appreciate the cultural and environmental aspects of the country. They were able to interact with locals, who greeted them with the Pura Vida (“pure life” in English) sentiment. While hiking, they were also able to see the wildlife, which included sloths, toucans, monkeys, and macaws. The group also went on a tour of the Tarcoles River and got to see crocodiles and several different species of birds.
Overall, the trip was an experience the group will remember for the rest of their lives. It was an opportunity to step out of their comfort zone to meet new people and immerse themselves in a new culture.
