ARCOLA— The Arcola Public Library has a new item to honor community member Jerry Stout.
The Douglas County Democrats donated a clock in honor of Stout and had a ceremony dedicating the clock to him Thursday afternoon at the library.
Stout has served as an attorney in the area for decades. He grew up in Bement and has lived in Arcola the past 40 years with his wife, Sue. He is a member of the Methodist church in Arcola and sings in the church choir.
The event was attended by several members of the Douglas County Democrats and community members.
Douglas County Democrats Chair Rocky Warner said about Stout, “It’s difficult to find people that are willing and dedicated, for any length of time, to reach out to the public in regards to political messaging; by being a precinct committeeperson for Arcola 1 since 2001, he’s been able to help Douglas County Democrats by supplying yard signs and candidate literature to his own area of the county; even though he may be getting on in years, his mind remains sharp and his heart for caring for others remains.”
Vice Chair Steve Drake said, “To me, the clock is a symbol of our appreciation for the many hours, days, and years that Jerry put in to advance the cause of the Democratic Party in Douglas County. The library is important to Jerry and is a fitting place to make our appreciation known to the public.”
