June meeting held for Mt. Zion CUSD 3

Mt. Zion Community Unit School District #3 regular meeting of the Board of Education was held on June 9, 2026.

Vice President Kyle Janvrin called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Board members present were: Kyle Janvrin, Michelle Shumaker, Eric Law, Regan Deering, and Dr. Courtney Gaine Cuddy.

Administration present consisted of: Dr. Travis R. Roundcount, Superintendent of Schools; Brian Rhoades, Associate Superintendent; Justin Johnson, Mt Zion High School Principal; Diann Durbin, Athletic Director; Renea Smith, Special Education Director; and Billy Rockey, Director of Technology.

The Pledge of Allegiance was cited by those present and led by Kyle Janvrin.

Michelle Shumaker introduced a motion to approve the meeting minutes of May 12, 2026. Seconded: Eric Law. Motion carried: 5-0.

James Bond addressed the board by thanking them for their work and continued dedication to finding solutions for issues that have been brought up throughout the years.

Diann Durbin addressed the board regarding Mt Zion Athletics and the accomplishments of both the high school and junior high school athletic teams.

Michelle Shumaker was presented with a plaque, thanking her for her dedication and work on the School Board. We wish her the best of luck with her new endeavors.

Regan Deering announced the IASB talking points from the past month.

A discussion was had regarding an E-Learning Plan. This was informational only.

Eric Law presented a motion to approve payment of the enclosed list of Quick Pay. Fund Warrants, and Athletic Imprest Checks. Seconded: Dr. Courtney Gaine Cuddy. Motion carried 5-0.

Regan Deering presented a motion that the presented Financial Treasurer’s Report be accepted and filed for audit. Seconded: Michelle Shumaker. Motion carried 5-0.

Dr. Courtney Gaine Cuddy presented a motion to award the District’s coverage to WCSIT (Forsyth WORKERS Insurance) for the Worker’s Compensation for $83,040 annual amount. Seconded: Michelle Shumaker. Motion carried 5-0.

EXECUTIVE SESSION
Regan Deering introduced a motion to go into Executive Session at 7:06 p.m. for the purpose of discussing the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of an employee or office of the public body, negotiating matters, and appointment of an individual to fill a vacant public office. Seconded: Michelle Shumaker. Motion carried 5-0.

RETURN TO OPEN SESSION
Eric Law presented a motion to return the meeting to order at 10:24 p.m. Seconded: Michelle Shumaker. Motion carried 5-0.

PERSONNEL: EMPLOYMENT OF CERTIFIED AND NON-CERTIFIED EMPLOYEES
Dr. Courtney Gaine Cuddy presented a motion to approve the following personnel as outlined below, pending a drug test and background check for new employees. Seconded: Regan Deering. Motion carried 5-0.

PERSONNEL: ACCEPT THE RESIGNATIONS AND RETIREMENTS OF CERTIFIED AND NON-CERTIFIED EMPLOYEES
Michelle Shumaker presented a motion accept the resignations and retirements of certified and non- certified employees. Seconded: Eric Law. Motion carried 5-0.

Regan Deering presented a motion to approve the re-assignment of current certified and non-certified employees. Seconded: Dr. Courtney Gaine Cuddy. Motion carried 5-0.
ADMINISTRATIVE RECOMMENDATION: To accept the Re-Assignment of Certified and Non-Certified Employees: Kaye Moran, Mt Zion Intermediate, Intermediate Full-Time Secretary Effective: July 22, 2026; Wendy Albrecht, McGaughey Elementary, McGaughey Full-Time Secretary Effective: July 1, 2026.

NEXT REGULAR MEETING
Kyle Janvrin announced Tuesday, July 14, 2026, 6:30 p. m. as the next regular meeting of the Board of Education, to be held at the Mt. Zion C.U.S.D. #3 District Office, 1595 W. Main St., Mt. Zion, IL 62549.

ADJOURNMENT
Michelle Shumaker made a motion to adjourn the Board of Education Meeting at 10:26 p.m. Seconded: Regan Deering. Motion carried 5-0.
