Beatrice L. ZuHone

Beatrice L. ZuHone, age 93 of Chaleston, IL passed away Friday evening, October 18, 2024, at The Arthur Home in Arthur, IL.

A funeral service in her honor will be held at 11:30 AM, Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 8975 E. County Rd 1200 N., Mattoon, IL 61938; Reverend Dan Ulrich will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow in Humboldt Cemetery in Humboldt, IL. The visitation will be held the same day from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938, is charge of arrangements.

Bea was born on June 22, 1931, in Mattoon, IL to the late Harry H. and L. Pearl (Yargus) Higgens. She married Harry L. ZuHone on October 23, 1951; he preceded her in death on September 12, 2014. She is survived by three children, Pamela ZuHone of Danville, IL; Michael ZuHone and wife Diana of Charleston, IL, Lori Mitchell and husband Ron of Arthur, IL; five grandsons: Joshua Hensley and wife Jessica of Boston, MA, Andrew Hensley and wife Ashley of Mattoon, IL, Lucas Hensley and wife Beth of Arcola, IL, Nicholas ZuHone and wife Becca of Jacksonville, IL, Geoffrey ZuHone of Grand Rapids, MI; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by one brother, Harold Higgens; and five sisters: Letha Higgens, Wanda Bridgewater, Betty Townley, Thelma Swearingen, and Ludwina Higgens.

Bea was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she participated in the church choir, actively volunteered at numerous church functions, and contributed recipes to the church cookbook. For several years she worked for the USDA in Charleston, IL. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, and was a master seamstress with an impressive skill set with wedding dresses to homemade costumes. Bea was a wonderful homemaker that filled her home with laughter, dancing, aromas from her delicious cooking and baking, but most importantly, memories. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.
