Ileana Jaramillo and Yoseline Gauna were named Arcola Rotary Club December Seniors of the Month at the club’s meeting on Thursday.
Jaramillo is the daughter of Moira Morales and Fabian Jaramillo and the sister of Fabiola Jaramillo. She has lived in Arcola for 17 years.
She has been involved in cheerleading, volleyball, American Field Society, National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Spanish Club, Rider Nation, and participated in community service in the elementary school.
In her senior year, she is taking physical education, personal finance, study hall, transitional math, Spanish IV, Journalism I, and Art IV.
“My favorite subjects are Spanish and art. This is because I feel like I can really express myself in these classes,” she said.
Jaramillo credits her sister for inspiring her. She says seeing Fabiola down and still being strong has shown her “to keep going no matter what.”
She plans on attending the Lakeland College cosmetology program after graduation and opening her own salon.
Gauna is the daughter of Monica and Pedro Gauna and the sister of Pedro and Michael Gauna. She has lived in Arcola for 17 years.
She has been involved in National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Spanish Club, American Field Society, Rider Nation, cheerleading, volleyball, and participates in community service with Kindergarten at the elementary school.
In her senior year, she is taking physical education, study hall, transitional math, Spanish IV, journalism, and Art IV.
“My favorite subjects are Spanish and art because I love learning more about my first language and I love making creative projects,” Gauna said.
Her parents are her inspiration because she wants to make them proud because of all they have done for her. She also shouted out Allison Phillips for pushing her to do her best.
After graduating, Gauna plans on attending Eastern Illinois University to pursue elementary education.
