Tuscola — As a community bank, Peoples Bank & Trust recognizes the value of volunteerism in our communities. To recognize, commend, promote and encourage volunteerism, Peoples Bank & Trust has established a program to recognize outstanding community members for their volunteer efforts to improve our community.
Peoples Bank & Trust recognized Darla Gardner as their “Volunteer of the Quarter” for her dedication to several local organizations. Darla is currently a member of the GFWC Tuscola Woman’s Club. GFWC Tuscola Woman’s Club unites women dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. Darla is proud of the Tuscola Woman’s Club high school Juniorette and Gentleman Club as well as the East Prairie Jets Club which she initiated and is active in both.
After retiring from teaching, Darla saw a need for an Arts Council in our community. She worked with the city to establish the Tuscola Arts Council. The team of volunteers are devoted to enhancing the appearance of our downtown square, gazebo and planters for local displays. Darla said it is definitely a “team effort” between the Arts Council, the city and of course . . . Mr. Hill.
She is also the director of the “Happy Keenager Kitchen Band”. Their mission is to perform for nursing homes, assisted living and memory care facilities. The bank also performs during “Sparks in the Park” and the “Atwood Apple Dumpling” celebration to name a few.
Darla is passionate about health and exercise. She teaches a free aerobics class on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the First Christian Church from 10-11. Anyone in Douglas County is welcome to join the class.
We appreciate Darla Gardner very much for her many volunteer hours. In honor of Darla’s services, Peoples Bank & Trust is making a $250 donation to a charity. Darla picked the “Help a Child/Fresh Start” which will aid local students at our schools. Darla’s name will be added to a plaque displayed at the bank recognizing the Bank’s past volunteers of the quarter.
