High School Students Meet for Leadership Training
Emma Jones from Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond High School and Sarina Voegel from Sullivan High School attended with ALAH FCCLA Adviser, Ginger Voegel.
Springfield, IL (October 3, 2022) – The Illinois Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) partnered with State Farm Foundation to provide approximately 200 high school students and their Family & Consumer Sciences teachers a training on how to be positive, effective leaders in their homes, schools, and communities. The training which was held on Sunday, October 2, and Monday, October 3, 2022, at the Northfield Inn/ Conference Center, Springfield, IL emphasized leadership skills and community service.
Sarina Voegel from Sullivan High School and Emma Jones from Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond attended with ALAH FCCLA Adviser, Ginger Voegel.
The Opening Session of the conference included a keynote presentation by youth empowerment specialist, Erin Tarr of Champaign, IL. The attendees focused on their Program of Work for the year and set goals for their FCCLA Week Activities, Community Service, and their involvement with local State Farm Agents to promote neighborhoods of good. Each FCCLA chapter will conduct projects in their home communities and high schools during the current school year using the information that they gathered at the training.
Lynde Pavich from the Illinois Special Olympics shared the impact that Illinois FCCLA could have with their donation and fundraising efforts for the Illinois Special Olympians. The conference attendees donated almost 1000 toiletry items and $165.00 in gas and restaurant gift cards to be given to those individuals and families participating in this year’s Special Olympics.
One of the other highlights of the weekend was a silent auction for the Illinois Foundation for FCCLA. Each school was asked to donate an item for the auction, with the proceeds going to help fund the scholarships that are available through the Foundation.
