Jr. High Knights Track & Field Host Weather Shortened Triangular

On Thursday, April 18, the ALAH jr. high track and field teams hosted a triangular meet with Tuscola and Paris Crestwood that was supposed to be a quadrangular meet with St. Joseph being the fourth team. St. Joe opted out because of impending weather and the weather proved to be a problem. Just as the Knights’ high school meet on Tuesday the jr. high meet ended before the last three events, the 200 meters, 800 and 4 X 4 relays, could be completed.
The seventh grade boys won their division with 46 points over Paris Crestwood, 35, and Tuscola East Prairie, 23 while the eighth grade boys tied for second with Tuscola with 18 points behind PC’s 57. On the girls side the Knights were third in both seventh and eighth grade. Tuscola won the seventh and Paris Crestwood took first in the eighth.
Donovan Vanausdoll was again a double winner for the seventh grade boys with wins in the shot put, 36’ 0.5” and the discus, 105’ 2”. Beau Green won the 1600 meters once again lowering his best time yet again to 5:12.9. He also jumped an impressive PR of 5’ 0” in the high jump for second place. Bentley Hutson was the other event winner, taking first in the 400 at 59.7. He also scored in the 100 at 13.3. Other seventh graders earning second place points were Colton Snyder in the 1600 with a time of 5:26.3 and Jase Kingery in the 110 meter hurdles at a PR of 18.66. Jase also had a third place finish in the 400 with a time of 1:13.2. Nolan Bartley picked up two third place finishes with PRs in both the high jump, 4’ 10” and the long jump, 14’ 0”. Finishing the individual scoring was Brodie Carter’s fourth place in the 1600 at 6:13.4. The seventh grade boys took second in both of the relays that were contested with Carter, Colton Snyder, Bartley, and Greyson Yoder running a PR of 59.9 in the 4 X 1 relay and Vanausdoll, Kingery, Abel Lat, and Hutson running the 4 X 2 in 1:55.9.
Faemus Davison won the eighth grade 100 at 12.8 with Carson Reed finishing second in 13.2. Anden Berry was second in the 400 with a time of 1:10.7 and combined with Davison, Reed, and Alex Olivero earning second place in the 4 X 2 relay in a 1:51.2. Olivero finished the eighth grade scoring with a big PR in the shot put of 41’ 0.5” that was good for second in that event and was fourth in the discus at 98’ 9”.
On the girls’ side, Sophia Johnson was first in the eighth grade 400 with a time of 1:09.3. Norma Mendoza finished second in the 100 at 14.5 with teammate Keely Simpson right behind her in third at 15.1. Payton Tinkle, Laila Sanchez Jillian Marner, and Zoey Mendoza ran the 4 X 1 to earn second place with at time of 1:00.5.
For the seventh grade girls second place points were earned by Laila Sanchez in the discus with a throw of 65’ 10” and Zoey Mendoza with a PR of 4’ 6” in the high jump. Gwen Herring took third in the 100 meter hurdles in 20.9. Finishing the scoring for the seventh grade girls was Macy Boddy running a 15.0 in the 100 for fourth place.
The JH Knights competed at Arcola’s annual Jr. High Invitational on Saturday, April 20, then will travel to Mt. Zion for their annual Invitational before returning home to host the annual Jr. High Okaw Conference meet on Monday, April 29. Action starts at Wilson Field at 4 p.m.
