BREAKING NEWS — Woman hit by train in Arthur
A woman was struck by a train at approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday, May 25, in Arthur. Lula Stevens, 40, of Arthur, was attempting to cross the tracks between Beech and Vine streets, when she was hit by the train, according to Sgt. Elliott Tinnon of the Arthur Police Department.
Authorities say her injuries are not life-threatening.
The train came to a stop, blocking all town crossings, and reported the collision. Officer Courtney Loeh was first to respond followed by Arthur EMS. Stevens was transported by EMS to Carle Hospital with a large laceration to her leg. There has been no public update on her condition as of Sunday evening although local law enforcement said she is expected to recover.
The railroad’s police department is handling the investigation with assistance from the Arthur Police Department. The accident scene was cleared at about 1:30 a.m.
