On Saturday, October 19, ALAH eighth grader Beau Green was the school’s first ever IESA Class 2A State meet entry. Beau qualified for the state meet with his first place sectional win at the IESA Class 2A St. Joseph meet last weekend.
At the state meet, held at Maxwell Park in Normal, Beau went to the starting boxes with 221 other Class 2A runners. He finished in seventh place with a time of 11:06.26. For his efforts he received a medal at the Class 2A medals ceremony held at Normal West Community High School and with that medal earned All State status. The top twenty-five runners in each class 1A-4A are awarded medals for boys and girls.
This brings to a close the first ever jr. high cross country season for Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond. Thank you to the athletes, Beau Green, Bentley Griffith, Camden Casteel, Gwen Herring, and Brianda Guzman for all their hard work this season. Thanks also to their parents, friends, fans and families for their support. And last but not least, a special thanks to volunteer Coach Austin Romine for his time and coaching expertise to help these athletes improve not only their times over the course of the season but also teach them some life lessons along the way.
