Numerous Items Addressed by Atwood Village Board

The Village of Atwood is being fined $4,428 due to the Wastewater Treatment Plant renovations taking more than one year to complete. The news was shared at the regular meeting of the board on Tuesday, November 12. The meeting date was changed due to Monday, November 11, being Veterans Day. Additional information is available at the Atwood Village Clerk’s office.
The police reported the Piatt County Sheriff’s office donated three car radios and three personal radios to Atwood. There were 82 traffic stops, 129 village tickets, 9 state tickets, 41 warnings and three arrests. Atwood Chief Joe Duncan completed CSI lead detective training.
New uniforms were ordered.
President Fleming said he is still working on getting another ESDA siren for the North Side of Atwood.
It was reported there is a sink hole by the water tower.
In other business:
The board approved the 2024-2025 tax levy in the amount of $159,203.
A welcome sign and LED sign for the village were discussed.
Discussion was held concerning plans to develop the newly-acquired park land.
Quotes for the pickleball court project were discussed. The reasons for this project are to provide recreational activities in our community for residents of all ages. Pickleball is easy to learn, can be played by all ages and provides opportunities for exercise. The A-H Elementary School already has a hard surface, blacktop area that was recently resurfaced in 2022. More information will be forthcoming in the future.
November expenditures totaled $11,367.41.

The downtown Halloween Parade, followed by Trick or Treat was well attended and everyone seemed to enjoy the fellowship.
The chamber will be decorating the flower pots downtown as soon as the surrounds are completed.
Christmas Open House for Atwood businesses is set for Saturday, Dec. 7 with Santa at the library. This is in conjunction with the German Christmas Event, north of Atwood.
Diane reported she had attended the Kirby Medical Center Community Health Needs Assessment meeting in Monticello on October 29 at the Kirby Outreach Center. This was a brainstorming session on how the needs of the communities can be met regarding to health needs as well as any other opportunities. A follow-up meeting will be forthcoming.
Ordinance 24-0-14, amending the Atwood Village Code was passed. This is in reference to 132.02 Public Urination or Defecation
A. No person shall urinate or defecate on the public way, or on any outdoor public property on any outdoor private property, or in public view.
B. This ordinance shall not apply to use of a temporary or permanent structure or enclosure erected outdoors for use as a toilet facility. Penalty. See 10.99
