County libraries to host three different 4-H events this winter

The Newman, Atwood-Hammond, and Arcola public libraries will be hosting three different workshop events including hydroponics, health and wellness, and junk drawer robotics.
The Newman Public Library will be hosting the hydroponics class to educate middle and high school students about growing plants without the use of soil.
Participants will dive into the science and basic processes behind the management of a soilless growing system.
Classes will be held on Jan. 6, 10, 13, 20, 24, 27, and 31 from 6-7 p.m. For questions, contact Kimberly Swofford at [email protected] or at (217) 837-2412.
Arcola Public Library will be hosting Mindful Me, which is a research-based initiative by Illinois 4-H that promotes health and wellness among young children. The program is designed for youth in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade.
The program will use children’s literature and hands-on activities to introduce basic mindfulness concepts. Participants will learn skills such as goal setting, emotional regulation, stress management, time management and mindful eating.
The program will run on Jan. 13, 15, 22, 27, 29 and Feb. 3, 5, 10, 12, 19 from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

At the Atwood-Hammond Public Library, third through sixth graders will be able to participate in free hands-on learning where they will learn about nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork.
There are only 12 spots to participate. To register, visit https://go.illinois.edu/RoboticsWorkshop before Jan. 14. The program will run on Jan. 16, 23, and 30.
