ARTHUR–Monday, the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond girls basketball team had no trouble picking up a Lincoln Prairie Conference win with a convincing 60-12 win over Villa Grove on Senior Night for the Knights (senior basketball players are Mackenzie Condill, Addison Yeakel, and Sara Herschberger were honored prior to the varsity only game).
Saturday ALAH fell to Central A&M 57-25, but the week also included a 60-29 win over Unity Christian last Thursday and a 45-23 victory over Blue Ridge in Lincoln Prairie Conference wins. The Knights are 12-13 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
Central A&M 57, ALAH 25
The Knights had a four-game winning streak snapped in a non-conference game. Central A&M improved to 9-16 with the win.
Sophie Monts led ALAH with nine points as the Knights struggled against the Lady Raiders defense going 9-of-41 from the field or 22 percent.
ALAH 60, Unity Chrisitan 29
The Knights had little trouble as they led 18-5 after one and 32-10 at the half in what was the second most points scored by ALAH this season (scored 63 against Okaw Valley). The Knights outscored the Lions in every quarter, including 14-7 in the fourth.
Sophomore Morgan Casteel scored a career-high and game-leading 20 points for ALAH, who also got 11 points from her classmate Sophie Monts with 11 points.
The Knights were 10-of-26 from the three-point line and 22-of-61 or 36 percent from the field overall. Monts finished with a double-double as she pulled down 10 rebounds.
ALAH 45,
Blue Ridge 23
ALAH outscored Blue Ridge 13-2 in the opening quarter and 13-6 in the second to take a 26-8 lead at halftime.
It was 34-16 heading into the fourth and the Knights went on to win by 22.
ALAH struggled from the field going 17-of-80 (.213), but it was better than enough thanks in part to 59 rebounds. Herschberger and sophomore McKenna Blaudow had 13 and 12 rebounds respectively. The Knights, who did not make any three-pointers, had just 14 turnovers.
