MAHOMET – The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond baseball team, coached by David McGrath, lost its first three games of the 2025 season. McGrath is a 2005 Arthur grad. The Knights fell to Apollo Conference member Mahomet-Seymour 8-4; dropped a 14-4 five and a third inning game that was called due to the ten-run rule and opened the season with a 9-6 loss to Warrensburg-Latham. All three games were non-conference contests.
The Knights were 16-8 overall last season and 8-3 in the Lincoln Prairie Conference, good for third place. It was McGrath’s first season. Five players graduated from that team, including first team all-LPC player Hunter Grant and honorable mention player Conner Nettles.
ALAH hosted Monticello Tuesday and play host to Arthur Christian Thursday.
Mahomet-Seymour 8,
ALAH 4
ALAH tied the game at three with two runs in the top of the fourth when with two outs Cal Binion was hit by a pitch and Will Hilligoss smacked a two-run homer to center field on a 1-1 count.
Mahomet regained the lead and this time for good with a five run fourth. With one out and bases loaded Ray Long doubled to left, driving in two runs. Runners were on second and third and both runs scored with the first one on a wild pitch and the second on a passed ball.The first run of the inning scored when he reached second on an error and scored on a fielder’s choice.
Maxton Boddy was 2-for-2 with a stolen base and RBI, while Will Hilligoss was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBIs and Kody Burdick was 2-for-4 with a double to lead the Knights.
Altamont 14, ALAH 4
Altamont scored at least one run in every inning, but the Knights were within one run, 5-4, after three and a half innings.
In the fourth Boddy reached on a single and advanced all the way to third on a ground out to the third baseman. Boddy scored on a two-out single by Logan Schrock to bring them within one run. With runners on first and second Altamont coach Alan Whitt brought in a new pitcher, who got a strikeout to end the inning.
Altamont tallied two in their half of the fourth, one in the fifth and sixth in the sixth to end the game.
The Indians had five doubles in the game, including two by Keegan Schultz, who was perfect in four at-bats with five runs batted in.
Warrensburg-Latham 9,

On St. Patrick’s Day Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond took a 5-2 lead after two innings against Warrensburg-Latham thanks to a grand slam by Marcus Otto with two outs. In fact there were two outs and no one on when Logan Butcher singled; Jon Williams walked and Boddy reached on an error. Binon walked, forcing in Butcher. Landon Franklin came in to run for Binion and the grand slam was on a 1-2 count to center field.
The Cardinals erupted for four runs in the fourth for a 7-5 lead. The Knights got one run back in the fifth when Logan Schrock singled, advanced to second on a ground out and scored on a ground out. ALAH left only one runner on the bases in the game.
