Doug Nielsen
Douglas Wayne Nielsen, age 82 died on March 28th, 2025, at North Fulton Hospital in Roswell, Georgia. Douglas was born on September 3rd, 1942, to Harold P. Nielsen and Maren (Christensen) Nielsen in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Doug was raised on the Nielsen Family Farm in Pottawattamie County Iowa as the second youngest of 10 children. He graduated Highschool in Avoca Iowa in 1960. Following this he attended a 2-year training program in the studies of electrical components. He was drafted into the Army and served two years but was never sent overseas. Following the Army, Doug became employed by Western Electric Corporation in Omaha, Nebraska.
Doug met his wife, Sharon, the night that he returned from the service at his sister Sharon’s house. They were married on August 31, 1968. This marriage provided two children, Stephanie 1971, and Peter 1973. In 1986, the family relocated to St. Charles, IL when his position at now AT&T relocated from Omaha, NE to West Chicago, IL. Following retirement from AT&T in 1994, Doug started his own computer consulting service providing IT services to several clients until he fully retired and he and Sharon relocated to Tuscola, IL in 2002 to be closer to their daughter. In 2024, the couple again relocated to Alpharetta, GA to be closer to their son.
Doug was preceded in death by: his parents; his brothers Orval, Harold, Victor, Maurice, and Donald; his sisters Evelyn Brockman, Nadine Nielsen, Sharon Stock, and Joyce Bua-Boettger; his granddaughters Ashley Nielsen and Peyton Nielsen
Douglas is survived by: his wife of 56 years, Sharon; his daughter Stephanie Hudson and her husband John of Tuscola, IL; his son Peter Nielsen and his wife Jennifer of Milton, GA; four Grandchildren: Heather Hudson and Hayden Hudson both of Tuscola, Christian Nielsen and Nicholas Nielsen both of Milton; far too many loving nieces and nephews to list.

A private grave side service will be held in Avoca Iowa when Sharon eventually joins Doug.
