Nichols drives in six as Arcola wins LPC game against Okaw Valley

ARCOLA – Kaydence Nichols had quite the game April 14 as she was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and six runs batted in to help Arcola pick up a 13-6 Lincoln Prairie Conference win over Okaw Valley at Bethany.
Last Thursday Arcola committed 10 errors as only four of the 20 runs for Cumberland were earned in a 20-10 loss at Arcola’s Moore Memorial Park. Ava Simpson was perfect in four at-bats with a home run and three runs batted in, while her sister Ema Simpson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Jacey Brian was 2-for-3, while Nichols drove in two runs in the game they trailed 13-1 at one time (after two and a half innings).
The Lady Riders are 5-9 overall and 2-2 in the LPC, good for a tie for sixth place.
April 14: Arcola 13, Okaw Valley 6
Okaw Valley scored two in the first, but Arcola tied it with two in top of the second. The Lady Riders tallied three runs in the third only to have Okaw Valley answer with three of their own in the third. Arcola pushed across three more runs in the fourth for an 8-5 lead. The Lady Riders took the lead for good when with one out Ema Simpson tripled to left and with two outs Maddie Pilkington walked after Ema Simpson stole home. Nichols hit a two-run homer for a three-run lead as she hit to right field.
Okaw Valley got one run back in the bottom of the fifth when G. Totten reached on an error and moved to second on another error. With two outs M. Phelps reached on an error as Totten went to third. Totten scored on an error with M. Patient at bat as Phelps stole second.
Arcola got the one run back quickly as Ema Simpson hit a 1-2 count to over the fence in center field for a home run and a 9-6 lead. Pilkington walked on a full-count pitch, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a ground out by Nichols.
Kacie Sisk picked up the win allowing six hits, two of which were earned with 16 strikeouts and just one walk in the seven innings. She threw 108 pitches, 82 for strikes (76 percent).
Offensively, other than Nichols Ava Simpson was 2-for-5; Ema Simpson 2-for-4 with a RBI and Hayden Gauna 2-for-5.
