The ALAH high school Knights’ track and field team competed in the long standing annual Spartan Classic held at St. Joseph Ogden High School on Friday, May 2. Being a boys only meet there were the regular events plus five fresh/soph events. Both the varsity and fresh/soph Knights were tenth in the team standings with twenty-four teams scoring in the varsity division and sixteen in the fresh/soph.
Individual scorers for ALAH were Cooper Shoemaker, 400 meters, 6th, 56.69, PR; Jacob Tighe, shot put, 4th, 48’ 0.75”; Colin Smith, discus, 5th, 143’ 8”, PR; Cash Hale, high jump, 5th, 5’ 8.75”; Easton Frederick, long jump, 7th, 19’ 0.75”, PR; and Daylon Doggett, triple jump, 4th, 36’ 5.75”.
The 4 X 2 relay came in fifth with a PR time of 1:31.96 run by Cruz Hale, Daylon Doggett, Payton Warrior, and Easton Frederick. That same foursome ran the 4 X 1 relay to take seventh at 43.97. The fresh/soph 4 X 1 of Brennon Hutson, Cooper Shoemaker, Carson Reed, and Faemus Davison ran a PR time of 46.54 to capture fourth.
Head Coach Mitch Wison posted this on the ALAH track and field facebook page after the meet, “What a great night for a track meet, NO WIND!! Great competition and a fast track helped us pick up 29 NEW PR’s!! Rest up over the weekend. Conference Championships are in 6 days and Sectionals are 18 days away.” The Lincoln Prairie Conference track and field meet will be on May 9 at Arcola with a start time of 2:00 p.m. The boys’ IHSA sectional meet will be at Central A & M on Wednesday, May 21. That meet starts with field events beginning at 3:00 p.m. with running events starting at 4:30.

Girls Track and Field Compete
at Lady Sages
Invitational

On Friday, May 2, the ALAH Knights high school girls and boys track and field teams went their separate way with each having their own meet. The girls went to Monticello for the annual Lady Sages Invitational. The meet featured twenty-one schools and several larger schools.
The girls finished eighth in the team standings with thirty points. They placed in eleven of the seventeen events they were entered in and scored in all four relays. The girls tacked on twelve more PR on the evening, inching ever closer to their season goal of 175 as they now have 137.
The highest finishers for the Knights were two relays, the 4 X 1 with Grace Romine, Leighton Poulos, Skyler Vorck, and Summer Melton running a 51.8 and the 4 X 2 of Grace Romine, Skyler Graham, Poulos, and Bella Romine in 1:51.18 who both placed third. Addison Yeakel picked up a fourth place in the shot put with a toss of 33’ 5.75” with teammate Alex Clark scoring sixth in the same event with a 33’ 1.75” throw. The other sixth placer finishers were Grace Romine running a PR of 27.90 in the 200 and Kimberly Krutsinger in the 3200 meters in a time of 13:16.25. The other two relays both scored seventh place points with Skyler Graham, Lily Vanda, Bella Romine, and Ruby Burton running a PR of 4:23.46 in the 4 X 4 relay and the 4 X 8 relay of Krutsinger, Vanda, Sophia Johnson, and Burton running a PR of 10:36.90 to set a new school record. This foursome held the previous record at 10:38.15. Rounding out the scoring for the Knights scoring eighth place points were Burton, 400, 1:03.73; Cassidy Rohacs, 300 meter hurdles, 52.97, PR; Clark, discus, 98’ 0”; and Skyler Vorck jumping 31’ 9.5” in the triple jump.
The next meet for ALAH boys and girls was to be the Fresh/Soph Invite at Tuscola on Monday, May 5. Following that meet is the annual Lincoln Prairie Conference meet which this year will be held at Arcola High School on Friday, May 9. The meet will start with field events at 2:00 p.m. with track events to follow at 3:30. The girls IHSA Sectional will be at Tuscola High School on Thursday, May 15.
