CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Arthur native Clay Seal was part of a Lake Land College baseball team that delivered one of the most memorable seasons in program history, capping a postseason surge with a fourth-place finish at the NJCAA Division I World Series — the program’s first appearance at the national tournament since 1988.
Seal, a left-handed pitcher and graduate of Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond High School, was among the Lakers’ reliable arms on a roster that exceeded expectations throughout the spring. Lake Land entered the 10-team World Series field as the No. 9 seed and wasted no time making an impression, opening with a 17-9 upset of defending national champion and second-ranked Blinn College on May 24.
The Lakers continued their run with wins over Salt Lake Community College and Florence-Darlington Tech, advancing to the final four. Lake Land’s run ended with back-to-back losses to top-ranked Walters State and eventual champion Salt Lake, but the program walked away with a national semifinal finish and a 45-21 overall record.
The 2024-2025 campaign also included a 24-11 conference mark, a Region XXIV (A) Championship — Lake Land’s first since 1998 — and a thrilling comeback through the Midwest District Tournament. After dropping the opener, the Lakers rattled off four straight wins to clinch their spot on the national stage.
As part of a deep and effective pitching staff, Seal contributed to a team effort that delivered Lake Land’s best season in nearly four decades. With a strong foundation returning, the Lakers — and Seal — now look ahead to building on that success in 2025-2026.
