A new flag was proudly displayed during the recent Veterans Day ceremonies, United States Space Force. This flag was established when the National Defense Authorization Act was passed in 2019. At that point the Air Force Space Command was reclassified as the U.S. Space Force and became the sixth U.S. military branch.

The flag has a black field that represents the vastness of space, with platinum fringes. The background is complemented by white and dark blue elements, symbolizing the infinite possibilities of outer space.

The flag prominently features a delta wing above a globe, which signifies the Space Force’s commitment to innovation and its historical ties to the U.S. Air Force. The globe represents the Earth and the Space Force’s support to joint warfighters.

The flag includes the Polaris star and two clusters of stars symbolizing the guiding light of security and the space assets operated by the Space Force. The elliptical orbit around the globe signifies defense and protection from threats in the space domain.

While the authorization act was passed in 2019, the Space Force flag was officially unveiled on May 15, 2020, during a ceremony in the oval office. It was presented by the Chief of Space Operations, General John W. Raymond, and symbolizes the United States commitment to maintaining dominance in the space domain.

The reading regarding the new flag was inspirational and ended with the following: “The mission of the Space Force is to secure our nation’s interests in, from, and to space. The U.S. Space Force protects our country and the freedom to operate in space, keeping it secure, stable and accessible for military space power and new waves of innovation.”
