The Newman City Council approved a proposal presented by the water committee to increase the price of the per/1000 gallon rate for water by 3%, while the base rate remains the same.
A proposal to conduct a 12-week program in the senior room with a waived fee was presented to the Council and put on the agenda for next month. The program is called Wits Workout and targets individuals who are 65 years or older with the goal to help retain cognitive ability.
An approval to raise employee gifts by $100 dollars was passed by the Council bringing the grand total to $700 per eligible employee. This figure is only applicable to full-time city employees as the Council voted to not include part time workers.
The city audit was presented before the Council and showed the city had a total assets figure of approximately $2.8 million, and a total liabilities figure of approximately $405,000. This brought the city to an end-of-the-year net position of around $1.9 million, which is around a $300,000 increase of the start of year’s net position.
