Thursday night’s Tuscola School Board meeting began with new Board member Matthew Waldrop being sworn in to fill a vacancy.
Seniors Logan Kurtz, Kaden Chenworth, and Hayden Gabbard gave a presentation about the school’s new entrepreneur class. The class is open to seniors and juniors and has a student count of 15 for the 25-26 school year.
It is centered around giving high school students real life experience about the inner workings of business. Within the class is a student-run store named Warrior Den; students design custom stickers and clothing apparel and sell them to the student body. The program is an opportunity for students to gain confidence in skills such as speaking and understanding customers, and understand how to run a business through an entrepreneurial mindset (which they define as understanding the difference of skill sets to better work together on completing objectives).
The class is currently working on becoming more efficient in business and hopes to expand into a bigger customer market and create showcases named Makers Market where students can prepare and sell their products.
The Board received and approved a total of 16 donations summing up to a total of $2,255. The largest donations came from the Cage and Dairy Queen who both gave an amount of $400. Recipients of the donations include the high school baseball team, the East Prairie cheer team, and the help a child program.
The Board also estimates they will receive $2.4 million from the state’s corporate money fund.
