The Arthur Legacy of Love Foundation’s benefit and auction held last Friday night, April 10, at Otto Center was another huge success. Almost 900 people enjoyed the chicken dinner and over 1,000 participated in the silent and live auctions.
Some of those items sold during the auction included two child’s Poly chairs for $125 each, a Log Cabin quilt for $570; a C.H.I. tour with lunch at Yoder’s by Omer and Merle Miller went for $3,000; a one-week home rental in Pinecraft, Fla., by Howard Diener sold for $1,100, WR Casey & Sons Knife Collection Red Stag 1996 sold for $800, a 5-piece queen-size bedroom set brought $4,500, and four Illini football tickets at the 50-yard line with a parking pass sold for $350.
As usual, some of the most popular items of the evening were the pies made and/or sold on behalf of the VIPS who are special members of the community and are the reason for this benefit. The three top-selling pies brought $6,500. Overall, the VIPs sold items that totaled over $10,000.
Other auction items included a variety of things such as a ride in the fire truck with Fire Chief Chris Helton during the Freedom Celebration parade, several items from the Children’s Museum of Decatur from a birthday bash to family passes, VIP seating for four at the Arthur Rotary Fireworks Celebration, a two-day, one-night stay at Heartland Cabin, and a personalized tour of the Capitol building given by Senator Chapin Rose that included four passes to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
Following the event, board member Dave Allen stated, “We are very grateful for the support of the community and appreciate all who participated in any way.”
The Arthur Legacy of Love board hopes to have the second CILA house in Meadowview subdivision at the corner of 5th and Beech open before the end of the year.
Final numbers are not available as of yet, but revenues appear to be up a bit from past years.
If you would like to contribute, donations can be deposited directly to the ALOL Foundation’s account at the State Bank of Arthur or by mailing a check to PO Box 222, Arthur, IL 61911.
