ARCOLA – Monday, in a non-conference softball game Arcola fell to Warrensburg-Latham 11-0. This was after the Lady Riders won its third game in four attempts by beating Georgetown-Ridge Farm 6-1 at Arcola’s Kelly Moore Memorial Park Friday. Last Thursday, the Lady Riders fell to former LPC member, Cumberland, 11-7, a team that is 12-6. In that game Arcola led 4-3 after three innings, when the Lady Pirates struck for eight runs in the fourth to take command. Analia Cooper and Kyla Lyons were both 2-for-4 to lead Arcola, who is 3-14 overall and 2-1 in conference action.

Arcola trailed just 2-0 after two innings. It remained that way until the home half of the fourth when 14 batters.
The Lady Riders offense threatened in the first as they had runners on second and third with one out, but a strikeout and a ground out ended the threat. It was the closest they got to scoring.
Elliana Park led the Lady Cardinals, 9-9, by going 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Bella Ground was 2-for-3 with an RBI also for W-L.
Maddie Pilkington was 2-for-3 for the Lady Riders, She is batting a team-high .500 on the season with 21 singles and four doubles, which are also tops for Arcola.

Arcola’s pitching and a big sixth inning helped the Lady Riders win 6-1 over Georgetown-Ridge Farm, a team that fell to 3-11.
Arcola’s Anahi Cooper did not allow a single earned run and had 11 strikeouts and just one walk.
“She just continues to get better each game,” said first year Arcola coach KayLee Hohlbauch. “Our biggest thing is just working on hitting some spots. Getting them to chase a little more by getting it off the plate. Other than that she has done great for us.”
The Buffaloes had an outstanding defensive play to end the first inning when shortstop Kaydence Kraus fielded a ground ball and threw to first baseman, Jordan Silvery, from her knees for the out.
The Arcola defense made an outstanding play in the fifth when with one out Pilkington, a shortstop dropped the ball, gathered it in and threw a strike to first baseman, Ema Simpson for the out.
“That was huge for us,” said Hollbauch. “We have not made plays like that. So, I think finally seeing one of those plays is going to help them want to make that attempt more going forward.”
In the sixth Arcola sent eight to the plate and scored three runs with two outs. Lyons walked to start the inning and Tenley Thomas followed with a single as Lyons moved to third. Lyons scored on an error and Thomas moved to third. Maddie Pilkington hit a double to left after Thomas scored on a passed ball. Pilkington moved to third on a defensive indifference and scored on a single by Briseida Corndarco. Ema Simpson singled and Rory Drake came in to run for her. Drake stole second and Condarco stole home for the final run of the game.
“Ema had a good hit,” said Hohlbauch. “They look more confident at the plate. That is my biggest thing as before this week they just kind of looked scared and were always second guessing themselves. Now they trust themselves a little more. So, it has been nice to see them put the ball in play.”
After playing well except for one inning against Cumberland and only making one error against G-RF, Hohlbauch said, “It finally clicked. We knew it was coming. I don’t know what it was. I don’t know if it was the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond game (lost 24-5 on April 6) game, but something clicked and it is making sense to them now. You can tell that. They kind of have a better understanding of what is going on and what plays to make.”
