BROADLANDS – Kyndrie Carter and Sophie Monts led the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond softball team to a 16-10 Lincoln Prairie Conference win over Heritage, which also snapped a four-game losing streak.
It is the senior trip for ALAH this week and so they don’t play again until Monday at Neoga in a non-conference game.
On April 28 Villa Grove scored 13 runs in the first inning and went on to down ALAH 14-4 in five innings, while Thursday the Knights lost another LPC game, falling to Argenta-Oreana 12-7. ALAH led 6-4 after three innings, but only scored one more run in the final four innings, while the Bombers scored at least one run in the final four innings to win 12-7. Annabelle Vanausdoll was 4-for-4 and Anna Rawlins 3-for-3 in the loss.

ALAH got off to a strong start and it looked like they would win the game in five innings as they sent 12 batters to the plate and scored eight runs. However, Heritage answered with a seven-run first of its own and tied the game with a run in the second. The Hawks took the lead with two runs in the third for a 10-8 advantage. The Knights got one run back in the fourth and the score remained 10-9 until the top of the sixth.
ALAH took the lead for good in the sixth when Sophie Monts was hit by a pitch and stole second and eventually scored. With two outs London Dugan singled to center and Claire Sass, who was a courtesy runner for Dugan, scored on a double by Annie Ponder for the 11-10 lead.
ALAH tacked on some insurance runs in the seventh starting with a triple by Reece Oye, who scored on a ground out. Annabelle Vanasudoll doubled and scored on an error, the only one of the game by either team. Monts doubled to left and went to third on a single by Rawlins. Carter drove both runners in with a double for a 15–10 lead and a double by Dugan scored Rawlins for the final margin of six runs.
Carter, the winning pitcher, was 3-for-5 with four RBIs, while Monts was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and Dugan and Annabelle Vanausdoll were 3-for-5 with an RBI, while Reece Oye was 3-for-4 with a RBI.
The Knights moved to 8-16 overall and 4-4 in the LPC, good for fifth place in the 10-team conference, while Heritage dropped to 0-13 overall and 0-5 in the LPC.
