On Monday, May 4, the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond jr. high girls’ track and field teams traveled to Okaw Valley High School for the annual Jr. High Okaw Conference track and field meet. The eighth grade Knights scored 84 points to capture the conference championship. Sullivan received the second place plaque scoring 81 points.
The championship was truly a team effort as some of the seventh grade team members competed in eighth grade events to score more points. The girls were entered in twelve of the fifteen events contested at the meet and they scored in all twelve, proving once again that every point in a competition truly matters.
The team had two conference champions, the 4 X 1 relay of Kyndall Crist, Maranda and Mariah Pratt, and Bentley Parsons who ran a time of 54.61 and Jennifer Plank who won the discus with a throw of 70’ 7”.
Scoring second place points were Maranda Pratt in the 200 meters at 29.05; Sofia Williams, in the 1600 meters in 6:37.94; and Trinity Schrock in the shot put with a toss of 25’ 7.5”. There were four third place finishers, Bentley Parsons, 400 meters with a PR time of 1:07.3; Kyndall Crist, 100 meters in a PR of 13.79; Jennifer Plank, shot put with a throw of 24’ 7.25”, and the 4 X 4 relay with Parsons, the Pratts, and Halle Oye running 4:49.82. Fourth place points were earned by Mariah Pratt in the 400 meters at 1:07.53; Halle Oye in the 100 meter hurdles with a PR time of 21.09; and the 1600 meter sprint medley relay team of Iris Binion, Jaelynn Sanchez, Mia Oye, and Cheryl Yoder who had a time of 5:42.67. Maranda Pratt was the fifth place finisher in the long jump with a 13’ 2.25” jump. Rounding out the scoring with sixth place finishes were Sofia Williams in the 800 meters with a time of 3:02.51 and Trinity Schrock with a 65’ 4” throw in the discus.
The seventh grade girls finished in fifth place in the team standings. Earning points for the team were Addison Cazel who took second in the shot put with a toss of 24’ 7.25”. Two individuals and two relays finished in third place. They were Natalie Peralta in the 200 meters at 31.63; Lilah Ellis in the long jump with a leap of 12’ 3.25”; the 4 X 1 relay of Peralta, Chloe Lawson, Sanchez, and Cheryl Yoder with a time of 1:01.83 and the 4 X 4 relay with Peralta, Ellis, Williams, and Yoder running 5:24.08. Finishing the scoring for the seventh grade girls was Addison Cazel with fourth place in the discus at 66’ 3”.
