The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond jr. high Knights’ track and field teams had their IESA Class 2A Sectional at Central A & M on Saturday, May 9. The sectional is the meet that advances athletes to the IESA State Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16. The boys will be sending fourteen boys to the state meet as they qualified by the IESA standards in four relays and one individual event. The girls will advance eight to the meet with their 4 X 100 meter relay moving on with a first place finish. They will also send one other relay and four individuals in three events that qualified by the IESA standards.
Members of the eighth grade 4 X 1 relay that placed first with a time of 55.33 are Kyndall Crist, Maranda Pratt, Mariah Pratt and Bentley Parsons. Halle Oye is the alternate for the relay.
The other eighth grade girls’ qualifiers are Parsons, the Pratt twins and Oye in the 4 X 400 meter relay that took third place in 4:34.75. Natalie Peralta is the alternate for that relay. Maraiah Pratt qualified in the eighth grade long jump with a 14’ 9.25” leap and Maranda advanced in the 200 meters with a fourth place finish and a PR time of 28.62.
In the seventh grade, Trinity Schrock and Addison Cazel will head to state in the shot put where they met the qualifying standards. Trinity took second place with a toss of 26’ 7.25” and Addison was fourth with her throw of 25’ 11”
Fourteen jr. high boys will be heading to state: seven seventh graders and seven eighth graders. For the seventh grade boys, Waylon Miller advanced in the 200 meters with a third place finish and a PR time of 26.17. The seventh grade 4 X 200 meter relay of Micah Burket, Bowyer McGrath, Jamison Helmuth, and Waylon Miller with their alternates Camden Casteel and Nate Blaudow took second place with a time of 1:50.89 to move on. Waylon, Camden, Cody Miller, and Micah also will be running the 4 X 400 meter relay at state with their third place time of 4:26.5. Their alternates are Jamison and Bowyer.
Those same two relays, the 4 X 2 and the 4 X 4, are the same events the eighth grade boys qualified in by the IESA standards. The 4 X 2 relay with Ajay White, Abel Lat, Eli Burket, Kael Ward will run at state after finishing in second place with a time of 1:45.81. Alternates for this relay are Brodie Carter and Noah Albright. In addition, that same foursome qualified by time in the 4 X 4 relay with another second place finish in 4:02.15. Brodie and Aiden Graham are their alternates.
