VILLA GROVE— The Villa Grove school district will be paying slightly more in insurance costs for the next school year and made some modifications to school district policies.
The Board will be paying increased deductible costs, such as the property damage deductible being increased from $5,000 to $10,000. The deductible costs for wind and hail damage will be increased to $25,000 due to rising costs in the insurance industry.
The Board also increased the limit for sexual abuse lawsuits from $1 million to $3 million, which was recommended to the Board by the insurance industry.
The Board voted to keep district costs and fees flat for the upcoming school year, with the lunch fee going up 10 cents. Registration and other costs for parents will remain the same compared to last school year.
Changes were also made to the district policy handbook. The district updated the cell phone policy to reflect recent changes in state law, which bans cell phone use during instruction time. The district enacted a policy requiring students to keep their cell phones in their lockers and turn them off from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
The district also banned the consumption and possession of energy drinks for children in 5th grade and earlier. Board members discussed teachers having issues containing young children with energy drinks.
