The Arthur School Board provided an update about the construction of their new high school at Tuesday’s meeting.
The district held an auction for excess school items in early June. Other technology and items were moved to the interim high school at the elementary school building in Lovington. Excess items that were not sold in the auction that will not be used will be placed in storage. Demolition began a few days after the auction was completed.
Construction began immediately after demolition. Elementary students that attend the Lovington school will attend the Arthur school building for the 2026-27 school year. Sporting events for the high school will primarily be held at facilities in Arthur.
The Board referred those interested in the project to their page on the district’s website that will provide updates on their construction. The page has pictures of the old building being demolished along with renderings and the proposed floor plan of the new building. The building will be built by Decatur-based BLDD Architects, who have built other schools in various communities in the state.
The Board anticipates the new school will be completed in time for the 2027-28 school year.
