Bob and Mary Allington
Bob and Mary Allington were recently laid to rest at the Arcola Township Cemetery. They were married on April 21, 1956 and moved to California in 1959 with their two children.
Mary Fishel Allington passed away in Santa Maria, California on January 13, 2021. She was born in Chicago on October 15, 1929. She moved to Arcola in 1935 with her parents, Dr. John Virgil and Florence Mary Brown Fishel. She attended local grade and high schools, graduating in 1947. In 1951 she graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a BS in Education and taught at Villa Grove and Tuscola High Schools. She worked for the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce and in the guidance department at both Sunnyvale and Fremont High Schools.
Robert Allington passed away in Santa Maria, California on July 15, 2025. He was born in Chillicothe, Illinois on June 9, 1930. He attended local grade and high schools, graduating in 1948. He served four years in the United States Air Force and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1957 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Bob worked in the electronics industry in the Silicon Valley.
They retired to Santa Maria, California in 1992. Mary had many volunteer jobs in the community, ranging from greeting people at the courthouse to reading to kindergartners. Bob volunteered at the Santa Maria Museum of Flight and the Orcutt Library. He spent many hours flying with the Tri-Valley RC Modelers.
They are survived by their children, Greg Allington of Folsom, California, and Suzanne Serr of Granada Hills, California in addition to six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
