During Monday’s Arcola City Council meeting, Hannah Myers reported on a successful inaugural “sip and stroll” event that brought 125-150 people together. The next one is set for next Thursday with different food trucks and music.
Erik Reader of Reader Area Development introduced himself and explained his work in helping communities reinvigorate their downtown districts. He said he spent the day looking at downtown buildings and talking to owners.
He said it’s often “a lot of little things” that hold cities back from developing their downtown districts. He suggested looking at a few buildings at a time so it does not become overwhelming with a program he calls “vacancy to vitality.”
The Council approved the tourism committee report, which includes $4,146.25 for Chamber of Commerce expenses, $12,952.50 for Green Mill/Cass Concepts promotional reimbusement to be paid from the Green Mill account, and $1,630 for the city for signage.
Several south side sewer grant pay requests were approved to Hoeer Construction totaling 316,064.04.
