Dana Waymire

Dana Marie Waymire, 63, passed away on April 16, 2026, in Concord, California.

Born on March 28, 1963, in Villa Grove, Illinois, Dana was the beloved daughter of Sue and Phil Madigan. She grew up in Villa Grove, where she attended Villa Grove High School before graduating from the University of Illinois in 1985 with a degree in Accounting.

Dana began her career in St. Louis as a CPA with Ernst & Whinney. She later joined HOK Architects as an accountant and finance director, where her talent and leadership quickly became evident. Her career took a pivotal turn when she was offered the opportunity to move to San Francisco and serve as CFO for EDAW Landscape Architects and Planners. Following EDAW’s merger with AECOM, Dana became a Principal and Global Operations Director. She later continued her distinguished career at Perkins & Will Architects as CFO and Finance Director, where she ultimately retired.

Dana’s professional life was shaped by her passion for international business and her desire to see the world. Her adventurous spirit was inspired early on by her Grandmothers Marie Madigan and Olive Carnine; whose postcards and stories of global travel sparked Dana’s lifelong curiosity and courage to explore.

Beyond her career, Dana was a gifted athlete and musician. She led her high school basketball team deep into the playoffs and continued her athletic pursuits at the University of Illinois, where she played on the Illini Women’s fastpitch softball team. She was also a proud member of the Illini Marching Band—all while earning a place on the Dean’s List.

Dana found joy in helping others and was known as a best friend, mentor, and confidante to many. She cherished her nieces and nephews and loved hosting friends and family at the Lazy Dog Vineyard, which she and her husband Steve built together.

Dana is survived by her husband, Steve Waymire—her best friend for 50 years and husband for 40—her sister Melissa, brotherinlaw Shawn Schrader, and her parents Phil and Sue Madigan.

No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a cancer research organization or to your local hospice provider.

I am only one of many many people who are proud to say that Dana was a mentor, colleague and friend. She was incredibly bright and passionate about the architectural profession. My sympathies to her family for their loss.

I grew up with Dana and was proud to know her as a friend. Her passing hit me like a huge shock wave. Dana was one of those “force of nature” people. If Dana was with you, you were bound to succeed. I was blessed to know she and Steve through high school. Theirs was an amazing friendship that deepened and matured as they did.
Rest in peace, my friend. Steve, Sue, Phil, Tis, our love and prayers are with you all.
