ST. JOSEPH– The Arcola High Power Eastern Illinois baseball league team continues to look for its first win of the season. Sunday, Arcola fell to the first place Royal Giants 12-2 in a game called after four and a half innings due to the 10-run rule. Acola lost the second game 9-2 in what is a scheduled seven inning game (first game is scheduled for nine innings).
Royal led in the first game 3-0 after one inning before Arcola got on the board with a run in the second. The Giants crossed home four times in the second for a 7-1 advantage and led 9-2 after three and a half innings. Royal scored three in the fourth and held High Power scoreless in the fifth for the win.
Bryaden Strack, a 2025 Bement grad, who played for Cerro Gordo/Bement’s baseball team,, was 2-for-3 to lead Arcola, while Lawrence Davis had the other hit. All but three batters reached base thanks to two hit batsmen and five walks.
In the second game the Giants, 8-1, jumped out in front with six runs in the first. Arcola cut the deficit down to four with a two-run third, but Royal added a run in their half of the third and two more in the sixth to win by seven.
Arcola had four hits, including Davis, who was 2-for-4 with a double and Brenton Lyons, who was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Trevor Frohling drove in a run and Brody Somers was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Daniel Arwine walked twice.
Arcola, 0-10, plays second place Buckley Sunday at Scheiwe Field in Buckley with the first game set to start at 1 p.m. followed by the second game at 3:30 p.m.
